On May 22nd there will be an amateur sumo meet across from the Wakayama Prefectural Assembly in Wakayama City at 10 a.m. The event is being sponsored by professional sumo wrestlers training here in Wakayama at their outdoor arena so it should be a good opportunity to see what sumo is like first hand. Sanada Festival

This festival commemorates Masayuki Sanada and Yukimura Sanada, a famous samurai family who, after their defeat at Sekigahara in 1600, lived in Sanada for 14 years and built Sanada-an., which has been designated as a prefectural landmark. (more)
