Things to Do In April

April 2000

April is the month of Hanami, a picnic under the cherry blossoms. On this occasion you can see usually serious looking Japanese people kick up a racket. People go out for Hanami parties and eat, drink, sing and dance under fully bloomed cherry blossoms. You must go out to enjoy the cherry blossoms at Kimiidera Temple and Wakayama Castle at night.

Tree Festival at Idakiso Shrine in Wakayama City
Apr. 2 (Sun.) 1:00 p.m.
Wakayama has been known as "Ki-no-Kuni", which originally meant the country of trees. The shrine is 5 minutes' walk from Idakiso Sta. on Nankai Kishigawa-Sen. For further info: 073-478-0006


Spring Festival at Fujishiro Shrine in Kainan City
Apr. 5 (Wed.)
This shrine is one of the very old and historic shrines in Wakayama. You can experience Mochi (rice cake) catching at three. The place is twenty minutes' walk from Kainan Sta. on JR Kinokuni-Sen. For further info: 073-482-1123


Peach Blossoms Festival in Momoyama-cho
Apr. 9 (Sun.) 9:00 a.m.
The town is beautiful covered with pink peach blossoms at this time of the year. It is the best month for seeing the landscape. The site is 15 minutes' walk from Shimoisaka Sta. on JR Wakayama Line. For further info: 07326-66-1100


Strawberry-Picking in Kishigawa-cho
The beginning of April through the middle of May. You can enjoy eating strawberries as much as you like with your fingers in the green house. The place is 10 minutes' walk from Kishi Sta. on Nankai Line at JR Wakayama Sta. For further info: 0736-64-8787
